Music is an essential part of Solero's life. This, perhaps, stems from his early exposure to funk and jazz records in his dad’s collection as a child. Motivated by the desire to create a vibe that the cosmos seemingly provides him, the music he creates is a spiritual emotional journey to a place that can only to be described with sound. For Solero, music is all about communication, and more than that, it is also a form of transit. For him it seems the art is where the listener can feel how the musician felt at the time. "It is a vehicle for transferring emotion. That is what music is about".
Solero's approach to music has never been and never will be geared towards commercial success.
He finds much of the popular music of today lacks any sort of depth and are bound by strict and restrictive formulas. Solero loves many styles of music as long as the intention is to reach deep into the soul, "Because if the music has no soul it isn't really music as far as I'm concerned!!"
As well as his dads record collection (which comprised of pioneers such as Herbie Hancock, Billy Cobham and Lonnie Liston Smith) a big influencing factor was his uncle (DJ Jo19) who first showed him an early version of some music sequencing software connected to an impressive array of analogue synths. For Solero, this was a dream come true. Being only fourteen had a dream of cooking up some phat beats 'just like The Prodigy' all by himself on his trusty old pc. Already familiar with computers and being from the video gaming generation it wasn't long before he produced some interesting music with such a basic setup. Later he heard music that really shook his world and unlike anything else he had ever heard before. Artists such as LTJ Bukem, Nookie, PFM, Big Bud, Adam F, and Blu Mar Ten showcasing the new sound of drum 'n' bass that combined intricately woven beats and sparse evolving atmospheres. For Solero, this seemed to be the sound he was searching for and tried very hard to avoid high school homework to cook up that' drum 'n' bass vibe!
These days, he spends much time constantly listening or making music. It is just as much part of his life as eating or sleeping. Wherever he goes a discman is present, with the music accentuating the universe around him and fueling him with new ideas to incorporate into his sound.
Solero likes music with a positive uplifting vibe because, well, it's generally more fun to be happy. He wants his music to be timeless and resistant to musical 'fads'. He wants something that will keep the listener coming back for more in years to come.. His goal is to make music that is ambiguous, non linear, full of flavor and jam packed full of soul. Food for thought!
